What is quattro?

quattro is the permanent four wheel drive system of Audi. With more than 8 million models produced with quattro technology, Audi is the most successful premium manufacturer of vehicles with permanent all wheel drive worldwide. If one axle of the car loses grip on the road and threaten to spin, power is distributed to the axle of the individual wheels with better grip. This results with a significantly improved traction in all conditions.

With a 40 to 60 per cent torque distribution between the front and rear wheels, the quattro system engages all four wheels regularly. Depending on the driving situation and terrain, the power distribution could be pushed further such as to the front, back, left or right.
